I've been gaining some interest in racing lately, and also had the itch to build up a new kit. Some of my vehicles in the past have been entry/value level, or used rollers, but this time I wanted a high-end kit fresh out of the box. The Serpent fit that bill perfectly.

Chassis: Built it up all stock and to the factory setup, with the exception of adding DE Racing F/R skids and using Gorilla Snawt instead of the kit supplied grease. I was very impressed by this kit, everything was high quality, and it came with the carbon fiber parts that I like. The radio/ESC/servo mount is a good design, all the electronics including motor and ESC can be removed with 5 screws. The diffs are some of the smallest and lightest I have seen. The only changes planned right now are Ti turnbuckles, and alloy rear chassis brace per recommendations from others who own this buggy. The tires are some Ebay cheapo's I had laying around, but I'll be swapping those out once I find out what is popular at the local track. Still trying to decide on a paint scheme for the body.

Motor: Originally I was going to use a Viper VSE-B 1/8 I had on hand, but it was slightly too long to fit. After looking at motor options that were 68mm or less long, I settled on the LRP Dynamic 8 (2200kv). Most will agree that LRP's first try at 1/8 motors fell flat. Now they have released a new line of 1/8 motors that look much more competitive, and I wanted to try one out. They are standard 4-pole, 12-slot design, big rotor, easy to take apart, and parts are user replaceable.

ESC: No ESC installed yet, still in the mail. I'm going with a Xerun SCT Pro (120A). The Hobbywing/Xerun lineup seems to quickly be gaining acceptance as worthy competition for the other big names in 1/8 electric, so I wanted to see for myself. I originally had a standard Xerun 150A 1/8 ready to install, but it was too big and bulky for my liking, so I sold it and opted for the more compact SCT Pro.

Servo: Running a Hitec 7950TH. This thing is a beast. Overkill is probably an understatement, but I got a good deal for it on a trade, so I threw it in. Will be powered by a Castle BEC at 7.4V, to be installed along with the ESC. With this servo I think I'll probably need to install the optional hard servo saver spring.

Batteries: Decided to finally jump on the Gens Ace bandwagon. All I hear is good things about these cells. Will be running 2x2S 5000mah 50C. Since the packs have internal bullets I made a nice clean wiring setup, don't need to run with the balance plugs or use a series adapter like my other vehicles. The less connectors the better. I soldered on a Dean's without much thought, and I think when the ESC arrives I will solder the battery leads directly to it. I will be using different wires to charge and balance anyway.

Well, that's all of my long-winded rant (for now!) More to come once the ESC arrives and I have a chance to test it all out.

Ok all....if you really want to have a set of front shocks that should withstand anything....i give you the Ve8 fronts...

and lets not forget about the rear...RC8 buggy fronts..

This setup should be able to handle anything you throw at the truck. Speaking of which...the Ten T has surprised me on how durable it is. My friends and I frequently visit a bmx homemade track and our motto is simple...go big or go home! Needless to say we jump quite high and after countless beatings, the truck has been unscathed except for bending a front shock shaft.. So I decided to upgrade from the Revo shocks ( CRT.5 setup )I had to something bigger and longer. Result is the suspension is super plush. Suspension feels just like my truggy.

Happy jumping all!

Hi!

I got a question about the voltage sag in relation to watts/amps. I don't know what's wrong with my LiPo's but I've seen a voltage drop to 30V. (10S LiPo, 37V nominal) Anyway... I'm pulling 4000W, 133A and the voltage drops to 30V. But, what if the voltage of my LiPo would only drop to 37V?
Is there any way to calculate how many watts I would pull? It isn't 133 * 37 = 4921Watt, or is it? Because the amps will fall, I think?

I recently purchased a Tamiya TRF810Xt Truggy. I will be running my Tekin RX8 ESC and I'm looking for a new sensored motor.

I'm running a Tekin T8 2000kv motor in my D8Te and it's been running great. Plenty of power on 4s and tons of power on 5s.

What would be another good motor to run on 4-5s that is sensored and has plenty of power to push a Truggy around, 10-12lb?

This will be for a bashing vehicle, I do not race at all.

Looking for speeds from 40-50mph.

Thanks for the help,
Nick

OK..looking for opinions here. Seeing as I only bash for now and sometimes don't touch my rc's for 4 months due to my workload, is it better to buy one Hyperion quality battery or 2 inferior batteries. My questions are which will hold up better when used less over a longer period of time.

I have 3 Turnigy 5s batts which work well, but after a year + one is poof and another is on the way... I know that the hyperion G3 line is great quality wise, but how do they hold up in storage, minimal use, etc....

opinions on both sides would be great.

thanks!!

So I am trying to decide what size lipo to get for racing, in particular, those 30 min mains. I have come to three choices based on what runtime I was getting with my old Hyperion G3 vx, 25 mins for a 6s 4200mah 35C pack.

1. Thunder Power RC G6 Pro Power 65C 2250mAh 6-Cell

2. Thunder Power RC G6 Pro Performance 45C 2700mAh 6-Cell 419 grams

3. Thunder Power RC G6 Pro Performance 45C 3300mAh 6-Cell 515 grams

The small 2250mah would need 3 sets of packs for 10 mins running time each, which any lap time savings might be negated by the battery swapping TWICE. I am not sure on the 2700mah, whether it would last 15 mins running or not, it would be super close, and maybe too risky? The 3rd option seems like a solid one with almost 20 mins running time each, so only one battery swap during a race.

Anyone with some veteran racing experience is happily welcome to put their two cents in on what you think of each. BTW, I run pretty smoothly, fairly constant throttle over the whole lap, besides the straights.

thanks

Is torque limiting tied to the input voltage as a percentage, or is it an independent setting that doesn't change based in a different input voltage?
